Fall 2019 Update

It has been a busy summer at GBSA. The new Men’s Homeless Shelter for the City of Toronto is currently out to construction tender. There is certainly a high need for this facility, which is located at 705 Progress Avenue in Scarborough. The project involves a major renovation to an existing 30,000 sf warehouse facility along with various site upgrades. The entire envelope of the building will be upgraded including a new roof, new exterior metal wall cladding system and new fiberglass windows. The facility will provide short-term dorm living for approximately 100 men and includes a full commercial kitchen and dining facility. The one-storey project is expected to be completed by Q3 of 2020.

We are also very excited about the new $4 million two-storey St. Clair/Silverthorn Library, which will have its official opening at the end of September 2019. The 7,000 sf new library is an infill project located on St. Clair Avenue West just east of Keele Street in Toronto. The main level includes the adults, teens and children’s reading and study areas. On the upper floor there is a large meeting room, lounge seating and a collaboration workspace.

Another project that we are very pleased with is the $11 million St. Simon Catholic School in Toronto, which was fully completed this summer. We have recently received some terrific photographs of the 60,000 sf, two-storey facility that were shot by professional photographer Michael Muraz. We are excited to see Michael’s upcoming work on the St. Clair/Silverthorn Library.

GBSA has several ongoing projects with the Regional Municipality of York Region in Newmarket including their headquarters building on Yonge Street, as well as at their facilities building on Harry Walker Parkway North. The upgrades at the headquarters building include a major design feasibility study for improvements to the ground floor. We also have ongoing interior office and washroom renovation projects in the works. We are currently working on a 6000 sf office renovation, an expansion to York Region’s existing parking facilities and exterior landscaping work at their facilities building. Two other York Region projects include the 4,000 sf regional health office in Sutton, Ontario and a new standalone utility building in Newmarket.

Work is ongoing with the Kingsway Animal Hospital in Etobicoke, which will include an addition and renovation of the existing building.

We are looking forward to an exciting and busy fall for 2019!
